It was wonderful to attend the New Beginnings Art Awards, led by the Women’s Support Centre, and witness the amazing talent of women from the community and prisons in Surrey.
The Women’s Support Centre supports women from all backgrounds from across Surrey dealing with abuse, discrimination, trauma, homelessness, financial difficulties and navigation of the Criminal Justice System.
Through visual art and creative writing, women at the centre were able to communicate their experiences, emotions and a personal interpretation of this year’s theme, ‘Masks’.
“Whether it’s telling others you are ‘fine’ when in reality, deep down you feel exhausted and really need a holiday away from all of the stress, or whether it’s a mask of confidence because without that mask you feel as small as an ant and there’s no way you’d be able to deliver that presentation, meeting, training session without it”
Congratulations to all the women on their achievements, and the beautiful pieces they have created.
The exhibition is at the Lightbox, Woking until Sunday 27th November. I highly recommend attending if you can.
