Police and Crime Commissioner for Surrey, Lisa Townsend, recently joined guests at Haslemere Hall for a musical fundraiser for the Royal Surrey Charity.
The event, called ‘A Positive Note’ was in aid of the charity’s Cancer and Surgical Innovation Campaign which supports the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust’s world class services in traditional and robotic surgery. It also aims to enable the Trust to enhance its theatre capacity and to improve patient experiences and outcomes throughout Surrey and the region.
Performing on the night were the Rock Choir, the Midhurst Community Choir, the Haslemere Players and the Royal Surrey Choir. The evening concluded with a powerful performance by all four choirs on stage together. The show was expertly co-ordinated by Musical Director and leader of the Royal Surrey Choir, Jake Hellier.
Also in attendance were local mayors and councillors as well as Guildford MP Angela Richardson. At the end of the evening, Angela spoke about the brilliant work of the charity and praised all the singers for their brilliant performances.
The Cancer and Surgical Innovation Campaign, also supported by Jeremy Hunt MP, will enable treatment to be provided to an additional 7,000 patients each year. It also supports training, research and education for surgical specialities, and looks to reduce wait times and improve outcomes for patients.
Speaking after the event Lisa said, “I was so pleased to join the audience for ‘A Positive Note’ and help support the Royal Surrey Charity. The Cancer and Surgical Innovation Campaign is doing exceptional work in such an important area.
“I think nearly everyone has been impacted by cancer in some way, whether that’s their own battle or that of a loved one, which is why this campaign is so important to so many people.
“I was so impressed by the performances and the organisation of the night, my thanks and congratulations go to all the singers and to everyone involved in planning the event. I was delighted to hear that the evening helped raise £3,700 for the campaign, and I know that this money will contribute to better care for thousands of patients in the future.”
