Surrey Police has today welcomed new Chief Constable, Tim De Meyer, who took his Oath of Office this morning at the force’s Mount Browne headquarters on his first day in post.
Following a rigorous selection process, Mr De Meyer was announced as Police and Crime Commissioner Lisa Townsend’s preferred candidate in January, before his appointment was confirmed later that month.
Surrey’s new Chief was welcomed by the Commissioner and others this morning as he started his first day in the job, during which he has also been out meeting teams of officers and staff.
Speaking this afternoon, Lisa said “I was delighted to welcome Tim to Surrey this morning on his first day as our new Chief Constable, and I look forward to working with him for the benefit of all Surrey residents.
“Tim will be a brilliant leader for our force, and I know from speaking with officers across the county over the past few months that they are excited to meet him.
“He will bring a fresh perspective to Surrey and a wealth of experience from his time at both Thames Valley Police and the Metropolitan Police.
“As I have said many times, appointing a new Chief Constable is one of the most important responsibilities that falls to Police and Crime Commissioners, and was not a decision I took lightly.
“I chose Tim as Surrey Police’s new leader because throughout the selection process he demonstrated passion, professionalism and energy and I am confident he has the drive needed to lead the force into an exciting future.”
