Lisa Townsend, Surrey Police and Crime Commissioner released a statement regarding the disruptive actions of protestors on the M25 in Surrey.
The statement:
"I wholeheartedly condemn the reckless and dangerous actions of protestors who continue to cause disruption on the M25 in Surrey.
I am a strong believer in peaceful and lawful protest. However, no matter what the cause, climbing overhead gantries on the busiest motorway in the county during the morning rush hour is dangerous in the extreme and totally unacceptable. These protestors not only put themselves in jeopardy but also risked the safety of those who were using the motorway to go about their own business and the officers called out to deal with them.
I am proud of Surrey Police who’s swift response meant they were quickly on scene to detain those involved. Yesterday I was out with the force as they removed protestors from gantries across the M25 across Surrey. It is frustrating to see how yet again our precious police resources have had to be diverted to deal with these protesters and keep everyone safe.
What we need to see now is those responsible put before the courts and given punishments that reflect the seriousness of their actions."
