Lisa Townsend, Surrey Police and Crime Commissioner, joined local leaders and school pupils at the VIP Safe Drive Stay Alive Event in Dorking on Thursday 3rd November.
Safe Drive Stay Alive is an initiative which aims to reduce the number of young people killed and seriously injured on our roads.
Lisa said,
"I am delighted to see the benefit of this scheme for our young people and our wider communities.
My office has seen how the programme has a real (and statistically-significant) impact on the young people who watch the performance and are challenged to consider how they take responsibility for protecting themselves and others on the road. My office will continue to support the scheme with £105,000 over the next 3 years - leading to fewer young people killed or seriously injured on our roads.
Ensuring safer Surrey roads is a key priority of my Police and Crime Plan, and a vital part of this is supporting young people to not only be safe but also to make positive choices - a focus of our work with our partners.Listening to the lived experiences of our heroic emergency services in Surrey was incredibly thought provoking and I believe we can all reflect on the powerful lessons, no matter our age or stage of driving career."
